British Airways has launched its biggest recruitment drive in a decade as they plan to take on 800 pilots by 2016.
The new hires would come through three recruitment programmes, including a joint initative with the UK armed forces to give military pilots a direct route into the commercial sector.
For the first time British Airways will be funding training for pilots through the “future flight programme.” The initiative is designed to help anyone from any background to become a fully licensed pilot. In the past many potential recruits have been deterred from applying due to the high training costs. Under this scheme BA will fund the successful applicants the £100,000 training fees. In return it is expected that the new recruits will take a reduced starting salary for the company in order to repay the costs over seven years.
The scheme is being supported by an online marketing campaign including a video on BA’s YouTube channel. The video features a number of pilots talking about their experiences as well as inspirational shots of BA’s fleet in the air. Interested candidates can apply through the British Airways careers site.
