There are many different avenues that you can choose to go down when trying to find out information about destinations, accommodation, local knowledge or must see attractions. As most of us are now searching for this information online I thought that having a look at what twitter has to offer would-be travellers.
There are a myriad of people tweeting about travel so this is a handful of tweeters that I found to be interesting, regular and offer some real insight to what they tweet about.
First up is @nomadicmatt. Nomadic Matt was working for his cousin’s temping agency answering phones and doing general office monkey tasks when he decided he wanted to never see another office cubicle in his life. So he started blogging with dreams of becoming a Lonely Planet guide writer. Things did not work out the way he had planned, and without realising he built himself into a brand and has continued with his amazing adventure ever since. Matt’s tweets are regular, varied, include pictures and are very relaxed. It feels as if he is telling stories about traveling rather than telling you that you have to see this and that. You can check out his travels on his blog here.
Next on the list of tweeting travellers is @WheresAndrew. Also known as Andrew Evans. He blogs for National Geographic, under the Digital Nomad heading. @WheresAndrew’s tweets are regular and you really get the feeling that he really is enjoying being in new cities and cultures and is fascinated by the people that he meets on his travels. His photos are also pretty good at capturing the moment . The Digital Nomad blog is definitely worth checking out for a well written, entertaining and colourful read.
@brucepoontip is a bit different to the previously mentioned tweeters as he is a bit more entrepreneurial with his tweets. Bruce Poon Tip founded Gap Adventures which is a company that offers real adventure holidays in a responsible and sustainable manner. However, his tweets are not just about business. He has a very outgoing online personality and his news feed is conversational, with a bit of singing in there too and It’s good to see someone bringing sustainability into their conversation.
Other travel tweeters that are worth checking out for stories and pics are: @BackpackerBrock for an incredible video story, @AndiPerullo who has stunning pictures and great stories and @AsWeTravel who are a couple traveling together giving daily tips and advice, and are also currently in Edinburgh, a big Welcome from Travelwyse.
And of course you can follow us @Travelwyse for plenty of interesting travel tips and suggestions.
These are just a few of the people that are tweeting about travel and cultures there are loads more out there.
