Edinburgh is an amazing city, and is full to the brim with brilliant places to eat. While you have to usual places to dine such as Pizza Hut and McDonalds, if you look a little deeper, you’ll find some of the yummiest food exclusive to Edinburgh.
Illegal Jack’s is located on Lothian Road and serves some of the best Mexican food around. If you want huge burritos which Jack himself encourages you to eat without a knife a fork, then this is definitely the place for you.
The menu is designed so that you can build your perfect meal and then wash it all down with a number of beverage choices, including Brewdog beers. Yummy.
If you want to reserve a table, you can tweet Jack himself (@illegaljacks) and he’ll gladly arrange it for you.
If you love homemade pizza with any topping you can imagine, then I can’t recommended Mama’s Pizza to you enough. Located in the Grassmarket area of the city, customers can either sit indoors or outdoors to enjoy their Italian feast.
Mama’s has more toppings than you can shake a stick at, including apple, blue cheese, egg and even chocolate! Topped with the fact the desserts are amazing, Mama’s is definitely the place to go for pizza.
Mama’s offers 2-for-1 dining for anyone with a Hi-Life Diners Club Card, which are currently being given away by multi car insurance comparison site Confused.com for anyone who buys a car or home insurance policy during the month of November.
The Baked Potato Shop
If vegetarian food is more you’re thing, why not check out The Baked Potato Shop on Cockburn Street. This shop is tiny, with only one table for customers to sit at, but I’d highly recommended getting some food to take out, as these are the best baked potatoes I’ve ever tasted.
The entire menu is vegetarian, with them offering a lot of vegan products too, including soap and home baking. If you’re going to eat here, I’d make sure you’re really hungry, as the potatoes are huge and they really pile on the topping.
Bell’s Diner is also a very small establishment in the Stockbridge area of the city, with only 36 seats available, but it is well worth booking in advance to make sure you get a table. With the main items on the menu being steak or burgers, this is definitely a meat eaters heaven. You can customise your burger howoever you like it, with different choices of toppings to make it the perfect meal.
If you have room for dessert, try the pancakes and ice cream, as it is literally one of the best things I’ve ever tasted!
Taste of Italy
Taste of Italy is located at the top of Leith Walk next to the Omni Centre, and provides a variety of Italian dishes including pasta and pizza.
Last time I was there I had the salmon pasta and it was delicious. Taste of Italy also caters to people who just feel like popping in for a coffee or a cake instead of a full lunch. The high window seats also make it perfect for watching the world go buy as you enjoy your lunch.
