Nuit des Musées was started in 2005 by the French Department of Culture. Around 180 cultural institutions are expected to take part in Paris and will stay open between dusk and 1 a.m. on Saturday 19th May this year, and admittance is free! If you’re lucky enough to be in Paris at the time, you might be tempted to join in the sprint from museum to museum, in order to see as much as possible.
The venues put on a variety of entertainment and events to really make the night special. These events include free access to collections at the Louvre, an exhibition at the Museum of Coins, Medals and Antiques in the National Library of France, a concert by the Chamber Choir Agapanthus at the Carnavalet Museum and many more besides.
Art and culture lovers in the UK will be flocking to Paris to soak up the atmosphere. One of the most competitive and convenient ways to get there is by train on the Eurostar, where you can arrive in the centre of Paris just 2hrs 15mins after leaving London. No doubt there will be some tired, but happy faces on the way back the following day!
Nuit des Musées is an Europe wide event, so if you can’t make it to Paris, there is a wide range of alternatives throughout the UK, Italy, Spain and beyond. This map shows the complete list of locations.
