This summer hordes of Brits will invade European holiday resorts.
There will be copious amounts of alcohol consumed, there will be lots of inappropriate behaviour and many a hotel room will be wrecked.
While there will undoubtedly be some hefty repair and cleaning bills, the fact is that your ordinary muggle holiday maker is an amateur when it comes to wrecking hotel rooms. If you want a hotel room properly trashed there is only one breed of human fit for the job: the celebrity.
So here for your titillation are three of the best celebrity hotel room trashing stories:
1. Keith Moon
The legendary drummer from The Who is considered by many to be the greatest hotel room wrecker of all time. His greatest hotel room wrecking antics would best be described as a rampage. For his 21st birthday celebrations in 1967 he kicked-off his wrecking spree by hurling a five-tier cake at his guests. A mass food fight ensued and fire extinguishers were emptied all over the place.
Needless to say, the cops showed up. Moon proceeded to strip down to his boxers (which of course helps you evade the authorities), hop into a nearby Lincoln Continental and then crash it into a swimming pool. Epic.
2. Keith Richards and Bobby Keyes
Another story from the golden age of rock star hell-raising. In 1972 Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards enlisted the help of Bobby Keyes to hurl a TV from the 10th floor window of a L.A. hotel.
In terms of the actual amount of damage done at the time this story might seem a little minor league. However, it became a true rock n’ roll icon and inspired a wave of copycats. When you look at it like that, this story is probably responsible for more damage than all the others combined.
3. Howard Hughes
Legendary billionaire Howard Hughes famously had a prolonged meltdown in a Las Vegas hotel room. He became almost a total recluse and refused to leave his room at the Desert Inn. He apparently stopped wearing clothes, bottled his own pee and quit bathing and grooming.
When he was threatened with being forcibly evicted he bought the hotel.
